I had a bit of an epiphany whilst I was on the course and realised that I didn’t want to be doing nothing for the rest of my life.
The course gave me the confidence to get some work experience with a computer company which I have now started.
...and here is my story
I was doing very well for the first two years of my Btec course in Business and IT and got distinctions for my work. However, everything started going downhill in my third year with not knowing what I was going to do when I left college. I left in February 2015 and have spent the last 16 months doing nothing much really.
I spent the first few months in bed but then I started doing things like going out and seeing my friends. When it came to applying for jobs or thinking about education I just panicked and stopped doing everything. I could have gone back to college but they had stopped doing my course.
I had a bit of an epiphany whilst I was on the course and realised that I didn’t want to be doing nothing for the rest of my life. I have also gained more confidence to do things and I filled in an application form to do some volunteering work with a computer company. I took the form around to them and they said they would see me there and then. I am going to start volunteering work with them next week and I may even get a part-time job there after that.
My mum is a company director in a haulage company and has been very supportive, driving me to my job centre and doctor appointments, which has been good also.
Before I came on the course, I thought it was going to be like all the other ones I have been on, but there has been much more variety and it is not focussed on one specific thing.
